Book is good and has lots of step by step instructions. The book its way to big to just sit and read though it, however I use it more of a reference. I used a smaller book to learn C#. Good book to have though.
Although I've only started with the book, it seems very good. The only reason for 4 stars is because I'd like to see this level of book for the newest version of C#.
This book is amazing. I got it for a CS course in school and it's one of the few books I have looked at outside of the class. It provides plenty of explanation for beginners to familiarize themselves with VS C# 2010. I still use it from time to time when I have some question that I'd like quickly explained (the style in which it explains points is great). Yes, you can use the Internet for most of what it teaches you, but it's a handy book to have and is very logical and concise in what it teaches.
eeh

Great bomi
I often wonder about the authors of these books. If you're working at a company, you probably don't have time to write any books. Or you may be working in an unproductive environment, and won't have a chance to learn good practices and in-depth knowledge. Or you're not working as a developer at all, and your expertise is limited to whatever you accidentally discover while noodling around on a PC in your vacation home. Nevertheless, this author seems to have gotten it right.I have some background in C++ and Java, and was pleased to find this book does not spend a lot of time reviewing the very basics of syntax and OO philosophy. It moves along fairly quickly (but thoroughly) thru C#-specific information, and does it in a very readable style. You get a lot of material, at a good pace. Well organized, with clear diagrams and examples. One thing I liked was that the execution results of the code samples are listed. It's important to try the samples yourself, but if you're in a hurry you can get most of the value of the examples even while reading on the subway. No "run this, and see what you get".A few quibbles:1) Some lame typos;2) Backward references (eg "see chapter 4") should have page numbers, not just chapter numbers;3) The index is not well labeled.I've been trying a few tutorials from the web; and I also bought another big C# intro when I got this one. But this book is the best place for an experienced programmer to pick up C#. I wish there were a 2012 version out.
